We see Martin Brenner as Eleven’s captor as he subjects her to mental tests for her supernatural powers, and in weird twist we hear her call him ‘Papa’. The whole creepy picture taking debacle definitely threw up some creepy for his character but we all chalked it down to him being traumatised and his pictures gave them a clue to the monster existence, so hey it was acceptable in the 80’s. Jonathan Byers at a particularly crazed moment in season one (Picture: Netflix)Īlthough there may be a romantic element to Nancy and Jonathan’s connection there is little room to dwell on it as both the characters are so wrapped up in Barb and Will’s disappearance. Through flashbacks of hers throughout the series, we can see that she is a child that is held and experimented on at The Department of Energy, who use and test her supernatural powers. We realise the magnitude of her powers more and more as she is able to make the school bully wet himself, she saves Mike from jumping off a cliff and flips a van over before she destroys the monster and causes herself to evaporate into thin air. Throughout the series, she becomes friends with the three boys, in particular, Mike, as she helps them find Will. She runs into Mike, Dustin and Lucas, Will’s friends when they are out searching for him. We then realise that she is in trouble with ‘Bad people’. She flees to the woods and comes across Benny’s Burgers and steals food from the kitchen, the restaurant owner Benny decides to help her and calls child services only to be shot by the person that arrives for Eleven.

She emerges from the Department of Energy building when she causes a power surge from her supernatural power.

Eleven is a series herself, this complex character has an incredibly mysterious origin.
